<< Graph Theory Interface >>
Upon receiving a project commission from the New Media Foundation Turbulence.org, Jason Freeman (composer) collaborated with Leaky Studio in the construction of a project interface for his Graph Theory Piece.

The piece is comprised of several pre-designed sound fragments (a sequence of notes played by solo violin), which can be sequentially re-arranged in a variety of options. Users navigate through the score by determining a path, based on a limited number of compositional elements at their disposal. The "voting: patterns of which are stored on a server and determine the formation of a real score, which is then downloaded a few minutes before (as a dynamically generated PDF) live performance by a solo violinist or cellist.

Within the interface, the top section features the current sound clip, which plays in a loop, the previous selected clip on the top left and the forthcoming possible clips on the top right. Users have the option to go back in time by selecting the previous clip. The forthcoming clips are colour coated based on their popularity (from hot to cold), thereby giving the user a visual cue as to how the piece has been previously navigated.

Users can see their trajectory through the score through the score map, located bottom left, while nodes within the graph grow and shrink depending on their activity within the navigation. Alternately, users can use the map to navigate the score as well.
