Technology Review - Version Française
Leaky Studio was commissioned to art direct the French version of Technology Review, an American magazine published since 1899 by MIT Press. In keeping with brand recognition, the logo was maintained for the cover. The treatment for the magazine was kept within the guidelines of its target audience - primarily male 35-55 years of age, often coming from academia. The dryness of the American version was supplanted however by a punchy colour family, whilst being used sparingly, keeping reading calm on the eyes.
Margins were played up in the page layout, due to the importance of footnote content typical for scientific literature, while they impede upon the text, creating indented frames throughout. Generally, a slightly larger than normal typeface was used, with slightly larger than normal lines spacing, to keep the pages airy and easy on the eyes. A break from the typically dense small type of scientific journal fonts. Principle ideas were to maintain a serious appearance of the magazine while at the same time making it “alive” and slightly more pop oriented than typical technology journals.
